June 6th was a hot, hot day at Wekiva Island and nobody knows that more than the chefs from Journeys at Alaqua and Fleming's Prime Steakhouse in Winter Park, FL.   After all they were the ones next to the huge grills cooking chicken and ribs while the heat index hit 104!

It was Iron Restaurant II: Battle BBQ, organized by Greg and Erin Whiteside, and the two restaurants were competing for the title of Best BBQ.  The event was also a fundraiser and awareness builder for Child Rescue Network and the Florida SIDS Alliance.  And despite the heat, hundreds gather to sample the food, win some prizes, and enjoy the day at beautiful Wekiva Island in Longwood.  Right on the river was a nice place to spend the day.

When it was all said and done and the judges named the winner, it was Journeys at Alaqua that came out on top.   Thank you to all the men and women who prepared the food for our enjoyment.   The creations both restaurants served were nothing short of phenomenal and nobody walked away hungry!

The real winners were the two charities who will share the proceeds from the day to help support their missions.   A special thank you to Greg and Erin Whiteside for their incredible efforts to put this wonderful event together, of course to Fleming's and Journeys, Wekiva Island, Seminole Harley-Davidson for their contribution, Teri Siciliano for securing the raffle prizes , Joe Dorsey at Blackburst Entertainment for shooting video for us, and to all the people and families who came out to share the day.
